I may have whined about this before -- haven't gone back to read a single post yet -- but one of the disadvantages of retirement is that there is no traditional joy in Fridays ... more of a SWIF (so what?! it's Friday) rather than TGIF. Today was especially unjoyful because I had to mow. We often have very dry Augusts, but we've had rain every day, and it's predicted to continue ... so rather than waiting for the grass to dry, I had to cut it before it got too long and while it remained damp. The mower didn't choke out often, but it was relatively slow sledding. I was pretty well spent with the humidity. This afternoon Susan's middle sister, who lives in Slidell, arrived to visit the younger sister who also lives here. We were invited to dinner, so went and had a fun evening. Susan is the oldest child; these girls were 15 and 11 when we got married, so we've been family for a long while. Not long after their parents separated and their mom took a trip to Scotland a few months after we had married and moved to Gainesville, FL, the girls stayed with us in our tiny 1-BR apt. in a married student housing complex at UF, We sorta had to grow close in a hurry ... and we did.
Watched some more Olympics today, highlighted by a Miss. State 800m runner who was a NCAA champion and represents Canada, who easily won his heat. Unfortunately our petite 1500m runner who won the NCAA this year and represents Portugal didn't advance.
