Saturday
That darn alarm! Dragged myself out of bed and tried to coax the dogs into quietly going out, eating, and sitting around -- a task made more challenging since Lucy, their old dog came too. We were fairly successful in quietly taking care of them and making my coffee. A good walk, but man, was it hot and humid! Summer is here! I didn't stay long after the walk, as I normally do, so I could get back and take the girls to the Farmers Market downtown. There was a big crowd and there were lots of vendors ... we even saw a couple of people from the MSU Entomology Dept. who had given the kids their Bug Zoo tour during Camp Papa. We bought a few things and made it home so Katie could get the girls ready to go out and visit GG, Susan's mom, who is in town for our nephew's wedding tonight. Between 12 and 1 Susan made it back home and Matthew and his crew arrived. We had to be at the Chapel of Memories on the MSU campus in time for pictures at 4:00. Hold the presses! The photographer was running late, and we sat around for a half hour. It was an awful day to be outside with the oppressive -- but not surprising since it's summer in MS -- heat and humidity. It was a pretty wedding, and we went to the reception at the Crystal Cathedral a/k/a Hunter Henry Center afterwards. Two signs that I am no longer getting old but have obtained the mixed blessings of having arrived at that destination: 1) The music, while by an R&B band playing mostly 60's stuff initially, was waaaay too loud! My ears felt like they were bleeding, and any conversation was accomplished through primitive gestures and lip reading. 2) Two kids who used to drive my mother crazy when they visited her soon after she moved to Starkvegas in the early 90's were there ... surprisingly as adults (very young adults, of course). Despite the festive nature of the occasion (this being the wedding of her brother's son, the last of the 3 he'd have to pay for), my bride suggested that we fold our cards and head home early. I could've kissed her! Did, in fact. All of the girls went to bed early, and Matthew came by after he had tucked Joanna and the kids in, and he, Tobie, and I visited for about an hour. A challenging but satisfying day ... good night, Auld Prince!
